In the current context of access to housing, the development of affordable, efficient, and high-quality residential models has acquired strategic importance. Within this framework, the project promoted in the Remate de las Cañas area (plots A8-A9) in Guadalajara stands as a significant example of public-private collaboration, resulting from the joint involvement of the Guadalajara City Council, the Regional Government of Castilla-La Mancha, and Hercesa. The coordination between these entities has enabled the development of a sound project, both in its conception and execution, capable of responding to contemporary housing needs.

The complex, comprising 156 subsidized rental units with two and three bedrooms, offers a contemporary perspective on habitability in social housing. The unit types have been designed based on criteria of equality and flexibility, avoiding traditional hierarchies between rooms. The bedrooms are of equivalent size, accommodating diverse living arrangements, while the circulation spaces take on an active role, expanding their functions to include complementary uses such as workspaces or privacy filters between day and night areas.

The building’s relationship with its surroundings is articulated through a generously sized entrance hall that establishes a direct link with the exterior, fostering visual and physical connection with the common areas. This space acts as a permeable threshold, where transparency and natural light enhance the experience of entering. From this point, the project develops a continuous system of pathways and interaction areas. The access walkways, along with intermediate spaces, create a domestic landscape that encourages neighborly interaction, integrating shared uses and reinforcing its collective character. Overall, the proposal stands as an innovative model within the field of social housing, where architectural quality, construction efficiency, environmental sustainability, and institutional collaboration converge to offer a robust and committed response to its surroundings.
